The bog orchids in Little Soldiers Pond are in bloom. Gene and Karen Herzberg visited there on July 11. The white fringed orchids are only partially open but the grass pinks, arethusa and rose pogonia are in great condition. Karen also found an unusual pitcher plant that lacked the usual red colour.

Photo and comments from Ken Knowles. Photo taken on July 10.The rare introduced Small Lousewort that John Maunder reported from Middle Cove in 2009 seems to be increasing. There were five separate groups of plants between Middle Cove beach and The Motion, all blooming about five weeks later than John had seen them in 2009. Take the East Coast trail north from Middle Cove beach and keep looking to the right of the trail. They are tiny.
